What Are The Benefits Of Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF)?

PEMF is one of the few ways of treatment with no negative side-effects as it reduces the use of pain-killers and antidepressants because it no longer targets the chemicals in our brain, but rather the neurons. It has shown substantial results in boosting immune support, alleviating pain, improving performance, suppressing and preventing physical signs of aging and enhancing brain functions.

In order to understand PEMF, we must firstly explain what is an Electromagnetic field or EMF. Earth emits its own natural frequency of around 7.8 Hz due to it’s solid core and outer crust creating a Geomagnetic field. The Electromagnetic Field is present everywhere in the world. The EM presence can be observed in long-distance migrations and orientation of wildlife, especially fish and birds.

Without the Earth’s electromagnetic frequency, life on Earth would not exist.

Our bodies are electromagnetic as well, with our entire nervous system and our brain acting as the electric and magnetic fields. Our one hundred trillion cells require electrical charge in order to function to their best ability and remain healthy, and our bodies depend on electricity to survive. Pulsating Electromagnetic fields emit higher or lower frequencies onto the affected areas more directly, and stimulate cell repair, benefitting both mental and physical health.

PEMF is widely used across clinics to:

  • Speed up the body’s natural healing processes
  • Improve cellular repair and recovery
  • Help decrease inflammation and swelling
  • Help treat depression and anxiety, and improve mood
  • Increase blood flow and improve circulation
  • Help heal wounds and bone fractures
  • Be used as a postoperative treatment and help with pain relief

PEMF therapy can directly impact the brain through entrainment of brainwave oscillations. Our every activity, physical and mental, is reflected in the form of brainwaves and measured in frequencies. When in the state of stress, depression or anxiety, our bodies not only experience psychological and physical anguish, the state is also reflected in irregular brainwave frequencies.

PEMF therapy entrains your brain and stimulates the neurons to vibrate at the frequency which your brain emits when in a relaxed state. It has helped patients suffering from stress, depression, anxiety, insomnia and even PTSD, dementia and alzheimers and has received general approval from the FDA for treatment of depression and anxiety in 2006.

Without PEMF 30% of people suffering from depression would be unable to be treated, as they are resistant to drugs.

A Harvard Medical School Study had found that a PEMF device used in research showed 10% improvement in mood after one treatment in patients with bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder. After a 20 minute treatment, patients displayed over 10% improvement in ability to work, life interest and mood.

Brainwave entrainment was initially discovered as a visually stimulating process in which the flicker of the light of a certain pattern (frequency) allowed subjects to enter a different state of consciousness. PEMFs use pulsating electromagnetic waves to penetrate more directly into the brain, producing a change in the neuronal networks that are present in the mood-controlling areas of the brain.

Physical health

Veterinarians were amongst the first health professionals that utilized PEMF therapy to treat fractured legs on race horses, and in 1971, the FDA approved PEMF for non-union fractures for human use. However, PEMF is now commonly used for treating age-related health issues such as joint injuries, osteoporosis and arthritis, and was proven to stimulate bone repair and speed up the production of cartilage that gets worn out over time. PEMF was found to slow down processes of aging as it can influence the cells preventatively as well.

But PEMF is also incredibly beneficial for athletes, as it oxygenates the blood, reduces risk of injury and can enhance performance. It’s primarily used for speeding up the recoveries of strains, sprains, wounds, bruises, fractures and even nerve damage and concussions.

EMF systems are wellness devices. They do not work like medication – a magnetic field does not affect the chemical part of your brain or body. The magnetic field acts on a cellular level and recharges the cells, rather than impacting them chemically.

The recharge of hard tissue cells was initially observed by veterinarians, using PEMF to treat horses with a fractured leg. In 1979 the FDA approved PEMF therapy for stimulating bone growth and in 1987 for adjunct therapy for treating postoperative edema and pain. In 2004, PEMF was used as an adjunct to cervical fusion surgery, in 2008 approved for treatment in depression for patients unresponsive to medication and in 2011 the FDA approved PEMF Therapy for treatment of brain cancer.
